Sanquin is the organization responsible for the blood supply in the Netherlands. We collect blood and plasma from over 450,000 donors, which allows us to improve or save the lives of more than 100,000 patients every year. Sanquin is always looking for new donors, because blood has a limited shelf life and some donors stop donating for medical or personal reasons. We are happy to collaborate with publishers to encourage people to register with us as donors (=conversion). The most important reason to become a donor is ‘to do something good’: it takes only an hour of your time and you save lives. For example, people with cancer or an immune disorder, or traffic accident victims. In addition, it is a nice bonus that as a donor you receive a brief medical check-up upon donation. This allows you to stay regularly informed about your own health or take timely action if it seems necessary. Many people are open to becoming donors but simply have not heard or read about it before, or circumstances made previous registration impossible.
